"It was clear that the wind players, each with a full, warm tone, have spent a great deal of time playing together and have cultivated a collective sensibility...

...an exciting and witty piece that showed off the group's tight interplay and excellent ensemble sense."

- Benjamin Frandzel - San Francisco Classical Voice April 25, 2006

ASSEMBLIES

Quinteto Latino's educational programs engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds. These two fun, interactive, half-hour presentations are specifically designed for elementary or middle school assemblies. A sixty-minute version incorporating elements of both is especially suitable for family concerts - parents and children alike will learn and enjoy!

Cuentos y Cantos (Story and Song)

Celebrate the music, language and culture of Latin America through story and song. Five musicians weave together stories and music, opening the door for listeners to explore the rich history and diverse musical traditions of Latin America. Whether weeping with La Llorona (the crying woman) or tapping to the Jarabe Tapatio (Mexican Hat Dance), Quinteto Latino will have you moving and singing along.

Trabajando Juntos (Working Together)

Explore the creative process and experience the joys of cooperation with Quinteto Latino. Songs from Mexico, Cuba, and Argentina provide the vivid backdrop as students play with the building blocks of music, discovering the different ways sounds can paint pictures and evoke emotions. By working interactively, students and musicians will create together what they could never create on their own.

Supplemental programs are available to bring Quinteto Latino directly into the classroom, leading up to and expanding upon the lessons of the assemblies.

RESIDENCIES (Grades K-6)

Lesson 1 - Students learn to recognize and manipulate motives as the foundation for a piece of music. After exploring the concept of musical notation, students get to compose and perform their own songs!

Lesson 2 - The members of a woodwind quintet, like any people who work together, need to cooperate and compromise to get things done. Each individual has an important role to play, and every personality has a different contribution to make. Students will focus on the skills and attitudes necessary to work together every day in the classroom by composing and performing collaboratively.

WORKSHOPS (Grades K-6)

Quinteto Latino musicians bring the sights and sounds of a woodwind quintet up close, giving smaller groups of students the opportunity to follow up on themes addressed in the assembly programs. By participating in hands-on activities, singing, and movement, students will further explore the intersection of musical language and cultural heritage.
